In recent years, Ultracargo has been committed to understanding the needs of the communities surrounding its operations. As part of this effort, the company has recognized the essential role of education in transforming the lives of children and adolescents in these areas and has supported initiatives like the Cactus Project. This initiative focuses on strengthening the learning of children and teenagers, with a special emphasis on mathematics and preparing young people in Ipojuca (PE) for educational competitions.
Ultracargo’s Executive Vice President, Helano Pereira, attended the awards ceremony for medal-winning students in Pernambuco, where he witnessed the positive impact of the project. In 2024 alone, over 9,000 students participated in the Cactus Mathematics Olympics, a stark contrast to the 141 participants in the project’s first year (2021). The Cactus Marathon, another promoted initiative, engaged approximately 6,000 young people, compared to 480 initially. Additionally, 18 students earned scholarships in Recife, two of which were at Instituto Ponte, a national benchmark in quality education for socially vulnerable youth. Participating schools also recorded an average 12% growth in IDEB scores for the final years of elementary education, surpassing the national average, which saw a decline during the same period.
“At Ultracargo, we believe that investing in education and people’s development is an essential commitment that opens opportunities to build a fairer and more sustainable future for everyone. I feel privileged to see firsthand how this initiative profoundly impacts students’ lives and strengthens the entire surrounding community,” celebrated the executive.
