In recent years, Ultracargo has been committed to understanding the needs of the communities surrounding its operations. As part of this effort, the company has recognized the essential role of education in transforming the lives of children and adolescents in these areas and has supported initiatives such as the Cactus Project. This initiative focuses on strengthening the learning process of children and teenagers, with a special emphasis on mathematics and preparing young students from Ipojuca (PE) for educational competitions.
Ultracargo’s Executive Vice President, Helano Pereira, attended the award ceremony in Pernambuco for the medal-winning students, where he witnessed the positive impact of the project. In 2024 alone, more than 9,000 students participated in the Cactus Math Olympiad, a significant increase compared to the 141 students enrolled in the project’s first year (2021). Another initiative, the Cactus Marathon, engaged around 6,000 young participants, up from 480. Additionally, 18 students earned scholarships in Recife, two of them at Instituto Ponte, a nationally recognized institution for providing quality education to socially vulnerable youth. Participating schools also recorded an average 12% increase in their IDEB scores for the final years of elementary education, surpassing the national average, which declined during the same period.
“At Ultracargo, we believe that investing in education and people’s development is an essential commitment, opening opportunities for building a fairer and more sustainable future for all. I feel privileged to witness firsthand how this initiative profoundly impacts students’ lives and strengthens the entire surrounding community,” celebrated the executive.
