Aiming to address delays in loading and the time restrictions for docking and undocking maneuvers of barges for its clients and other companies operating at the Vila do Conde Port (PA), Ultracargo prepared a technical study. This study served as the basis for port authorities to update the current regulations at the Vila do Conde Port, improving movement flow and reducing maritime operation times.
The previous rule stipulated that barge docking and undocking maneuvers at Berth 502 could only occur during high tide and daylight hours, directly impacting the port’s logistical efficiency and significantly limiting its operational capacity. The technical study conducted by Ultracargo demonstrated that these operations can be safely carried out during both ebb and high tide, provided the approach is always made against the prevailing current and during daylight hours.
The document was presented and approved in a meeting with representatives from the Companhia Docas do Pará (CDP) and the Eastern Amazon Port Authority. With the new operational rules implemented by the port authority, clients can now load or unload more than one barge per day at Berth 502, optimizing costs and time in their operations. Additionally, nighttime docking and undocking of ships at Berth 501 have been permanently authorized, a practice previously prohibited. This restriction caused delays of up to 12 hours for vessels, increasing operational costs.
“The changes to the Vila do Conde terminal regulations represent a significant improvement for all Ultracargo clients and other companies operating in the region. Previously, if a company had four barges to load, it would take four days to complete the operation since there is only one high tide per day. Now, under the new conditions, the same process can be safely completed in a maximum of two days, depending on the size of the barge and the operation. This is a significant logistical gain,” says the company’s Vice President, Helano Pereira Gomes.
With these updated rules, Ultracargo reaffirms its commitment to providing the best and most efficient solutions for its clients. “We always strive to innovate and improve the daily operations of the companies we do business with, adapting our operations to their needs and market demands. These new permissions not only position the Vila do Conde Port at a more competitive level but also bring positive impacts to the entire supply chain,” concludes Helano.
